🍲 Dal Fry and Jeera Rice Recipe – Classic Indian Comfort Combo

  •  Dal Fry with Jeera Rice is a simple yet heavenly North Indian meal combo. Flavored lentils with a buttery tempering, paired with fragrant cumin-flavored basmati rice  this dish is comforting, healthy, and full of desi flavor!









  • Dal Fry Recipe

      🧾 Ingredients:

  • ½ cup toor dal (arhar dal)

  • 1½ cups water

  • 1 small onion (chopped)

  • 1 tomato (chopped)

  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 1 green chili (optional)

  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tbsp oil or ghee

  • ½ tsp cumin seeds

  • A pinch of hing (asafoetida)

  • ½ tsp red chili powder

  • ½ tsp garam masala

  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander (for garnish)

  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)


👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Cook the Dal:
    Wash and pressure cook toor dal with water, turmeric, and salt for 3–4 whistles. Mash it well.

  2. Make the Tadka (tempering):
    Heat ghee/oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, hing, green chili, and ginger-garlic paste.
    Add onions and sauté until golden. Then add tomatoes and cook till soft.

  3. Add Spices:
    Add red chili powder, garam masala, and cooked dal. Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes.

  4. Finish:
    Garnish with coriander leaves and a few drops of lemon juice.


🍚 Jeera Rice Recipe

🧾 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice

  • 2 cups water

  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 bay leaf (optional)

  • Fresh coriander (for garnish)


👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Wash rice and soak for 20 mins. Drain.

  2. Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and bay leaf.

  3. Add drained rice and stir for 1 min.

  4. Add water and salt. Cover and cook until rice is fluffy and water is absorbed (10–12 mins).

  5. Fluff with fork and garnish with coriander.


🍽️ Serving Suggestion:

Serve hot dal fry over jeera rice, with pickle, papad, or a simple salad for the ultimate comfort meal.
