Lasaniya Bataka – Spicy Garlic Potatoes | Kathiyawadi Style

Lasaniya Bataka is a fiery and flavorful Kathiyawadi dish made with baby potatoes and lots of garlic. This rustic and spicy recipe is perfect with bajra rotla or rice.














🧾 Ingredients:

  • 10–12 baby potatoes (boiled & peeled) or 3 regular potatoes (cubed)

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 10–12 garlic cloves (crushed)

  • 1 tbsp red chili powder

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

  • Pinch of hing (asafoetida)

  • Salt to taste

  • Water as needed

  • Coriander leaves for garnish


👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Boil the Potatoes:

    • Boil and peel potatoes. Keep them whole if small, or cube them.

  2. Prepare Masala Base:

    • Heat oil in a kadhai. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and hing.

    • Add crushed garlic and sauté till golden and fragrant.

  3. Add Spices:

    • Add turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

  4. Cook Potatoes:

    • Add boiled potatoes and stir to coat with masala.

    • Add a little water and let it cook for 5–7 minutes until flavors blend well.

  5. Garnish & Serve:

    • Sprinkle fresh coriander and serve hot.


🍽️ Serving Suggestion:

Pair with bajra rotla, buttermilk, and raw onion for a complete Kathiyawadi thali!
