Pav Bhaji – Mumbai Style Butter Street Food

Pav Bhaji is a spicy mashed vegetable curry served with buttered pav (bread rolls). It’s one of Mumbai’s most famous street foods and a total crowd-pleaser!











🧾 Ingredients:

🔸 For Bhaji:

  • 2 potatoes (boiled & mashed)

  • 1/2 cup cauliflower (boiled & chopped)

  • 1/4 cup green peas

  • 1/2 cup capsicum (chopped)

  • 2 onions (finely chopped)

  • 2 tomatoes (chopped or pureed)

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 1½ tsp pav bhaji masala

  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder

  • Salt to taste

  • Water as needed

  • Fresh coriander & lemon for garnish

🔸 For Pav:

  • 4 ladi pav

  • Butter to toast

  • Pinch of pav bhaji masala


👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Cook Veggies:
    Boil and mash potato, peas, cauliflower. Keep aside.

  2. Make Bhaji:
    Heat oil + butter in a pan. Add onions, sauté till golden.
    Add ginger-garlic paste, cook 1 min.
    Add tomatoes, capsicum & cook till soft.
    Add spices, mashed veggies & little water. Mash everything together.

  3. Simmer:
    Cook bhaji for 10–15 mins, mash well, adjust salt & consistency.

  4. Toast Pav:
    Cut pav in half, toast on tawa with butter & pav bhaji masala.

  5. Serve Hot:
    Serve bhaji topped with butter, onions, coriander, and lemon wedge.
